The Village of Deerfield, Wisconsin (Dane County) was incorporated in 1891, and since that time has been a thriving community in south central Wisconsin. Conveniently located near several major highways, the area has easy access to Madison, Milwaukee, and Chicago. Just 10 minutes east of Madison and 5 minutes west of the Cambridge/Lake Ripley and Lake Mills/Rock Lake areas, Deerfield is only 35 minutes west of the Milwaukee metropolitan area and less than 2 hours from the Chicago metropolitan area via the convenient Interstate highway system.

The township of Deerfield was organized in 1849, the year following statehood for Wisconsin. The Township was so named because of the large number of deer in the area. It was once the fourth largest Norwegian community in the United States. You can still admire original historical architecture in Deerfield's downtown buildings. Many town residents come often to shop at some of the best antique stores in the state, each located just a few steps away from several eating establishments. Downtown Deerfield is also home to the only indoor pistol and archery range between Madison and Milwaukee.

Thriving amid beautiful Glacial Drumlin hills, roots planted deep in the rich loam of eastern Dane County, the Village of Deerfield offers the best of both worlds – small town friendliness along with convenient access to urban opportunities. The popular Glacial-Drumlin Recreational Trail runs through a downtown that features a charming medley of structures, many dating from the late 19th century. This scenic corridor connects Cottage Grove - just outside of Madison - with Waukesha, 52 miles to the east, along an old railroad bed. Faithful stewardship by the state Department of Natural Resources and breathtaking vistas make it a favorite of bikers, hikers, joggers, berry pickers, photographers and snowmobilers.

Every Saturday in August and September, villagers find an abundance of freshly grown produce and other local baked goods in the downtown Glacial Drumlin trailhead parking lot. The Farmer's Market is the ideal spot in town to catch up on all the latest local news. Show up early, enjoy a hot cup of coffee and a homemade sweet roll, then stroll around to check out what the neighbor farmers are selling. Be sure to stick around long enough to grab a fresh Wisconsin brat for lunch.
